Ambassador Henning Simon hosts official reception and diplomatic handover at German residence
MANAMA — The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Henning Simon, hosted an official reception at his residence on Wednesday evening to mark Germany’s assumption of the local presidency of the European Union in Bahrain.
The ceremony featured the formal handover of the local presidency from the Republic of Cyprus to the Federal Republic of Germany. During the event, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Kingdom of Bahrain, His Excellency Andreas Eliades, officially transferred the leadership responsibilities to Ambassador Simon, signaling the commencement of the German term.

The high-profile event was attended by a distinguished gathering of ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the Kingdom, representatives from various official Bahraini entities, and prominent local dignitaries.
The local presidency of the European Union functions as a vital mechanism for on-the-ground coordination among EU member state missions in Bahrain. Under this framework, the country holding the presidency takes the lead in aligning joint efforts between European embassies and representing the Union at official functions. This diplomatic transition is expected to further enhance strategic cooperation, political dialogue, and bilateral relations between the European Union and the Kingdom of Bahrain across a wide range of shared interests.
