MANAMA: The Shree Narayana Cultural Society (SNCS) officially kicked off its Onam and Chathayam Day celebrations for 2026 with great enthusiasm and high community participation. The festivities opened on Thursday evening, August 27, with a cultural convention followed by a series of traditional artistic performances.
The inaugural event commenced with the recitation of Daivadashakam by SNCS members, followed by a ceremonial invocation dance performed by Gagana, Atmika, Niranjana, and Nakshatra. General Secretary Prakash K.P. delivered the welcome address, while Chairman Suneesh Susheelan presided over the meeting. Prominent businessman Pampavasan Nair inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the traditional lamp and delivered the keynote address. Mr. Nair was also honored during the ceremony for his contributions to the community.
Participants in the national patriotic song competition were recognized during the evening. Cultural Secretary Sangeetha Gokul expressed the vote of thanks. The inauguration was followed by a cultural evening featuring children’s dance performances, a traditional Thiruvathirakali by women, cinematic dances, a Pulikali performance by the youth, and comedy skits. Rajesh Perunguzhi served as the chief anchor for the event.
On the second day of celebrations, Friday, August 28, SNCS hosted a grand Onamsadhya in observance of Chathayam Day, with over 700 attendees partaking in the traditional feast.
The office bearers announced that the grand finale—the Mega Onam Celebration—will take place on October 9, 2026, at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Auditorium, featuring a wide array of cultural programmes.
