BKS Speakers Forum Celebrates 80th Indian Independence Day

MANAMA: The Speakers Forum of the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), under its ‘The Confidence Cafe’ initiative, celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with a series of events.

As part of the celebrations, an adult public speaking competition was held on the topic “Patriotism: In Words or Actions?”, featuring over 20 participants. In a historic first for the Samajam, Richu Ponnu Roy, a determination child, competed alongside other speakers and earned high praise from the judges and audience, securing a Special Jury Award. The competition was judged by Pradeep Puramkara, Saji Markose, and Bony.

Mujeeb Rahman won first place, followed by Jacob Mathew in second, and Ashok Sreesailam in third.

The subsequent cultural meeting was presided over by BKS Acting President Ravikumar, with Literary Wing Secretary Vinayachandran Nair delivering the welcome address. Poet and writer Manoj Kalarikkal attended as the chief guest and delivered the Independence Day message. Patriotic songs, dances, and a saxophone performance by BKS member Rajesh added to the festivities.

Joint Convener Jibi Kaleekkal offered greetings, Program Convener Joy Pauly proposed the vote of thanks, and Shibu John coordinated the event.
