Bahrain Food Bank Delegation Visits Saudi Arabia to Boost Food Surplus Partnership

Dammam — A delegation from the Food Bank Association (Food Preservation Society), led by Executive Committee Chair Ms. Amal Yousef Al-Moayyed, conducted a field visit to the Saudi Food Bank in the Eastern Province to boost regional cooperation and review best practices in food surplus management.

The Bahraini delegation—which included Board Members Ms. Laila Mohammed Janahi and Mr. Farouk Mohammed Al Khaja, CEO Ms. Thawra Ibrahim Al Dhaen, and Board Secretary Ms. Nada Ishaq Abdulkarim—was received by Saudi Food Bank CEO Mr. Faisal Mohammed Al-Shoushan along with senior executive staff.

A primary highlight of the visit was an operational briefing on the “Feed Express” (“Et3am Express”) project, a non-profit supermarket model offering heavily discounted products to support local families while minimizing food waste. Both organizations explored setting up a joint committee to evaluate financial sustainability models, expand food distribution networks, and adapt similar income-generating non-profit initiatives for the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Speaking on the visit, Ms. Al-Moayyed emphasized that the initiative aligns with the directives of Board Chairman Mr. Abdul Latif bin Abdullah Al-Rajhi to adopt leading regional standards. She noted that the “Feed Express” model provides a practical framework combining community service with long-term financial sustainability, paving the way for future joint initiatives across the region.
